Isaac: A Few Minutes Old

A few months ago, I was asked to do something that I've never done in my photography career. My friend, Crystal asked if I would capture her labor and delivery story for her fourth baby. I was excited about the opportunity. But honestly, it made me way more nervous than shooting a wedding. Can't do these things over.

She was due on Oct. 20th so for the two weeks prior, I held onto my phone 24/7 which is definitely not how I roll. Every time it rang, my heart would race. Would this be "the call"?  Her due date rolled around. No call. Day after. No call. I felt like a doctor on call. Finally at 4:47am on the 22nd, my phone rang and immediately I was wide awake. By the time I got to the hospital, Speedy Gonzalez was already born! WHAT? I missed his entrance into the world by about 10 minutes. I couldn't believe it. Two pushes and he was here.

Even though I missed his first breath and first cry, I was able to capture the first few precious moments/hours that followed and for that, I am truly grateful and honored. And his name...Isaac Michael. 9 lbs. 3 oz. The fourth arrow in Daddy and Mommy's quiver. The fourth boy! What a honey. Made me think of my first time through labor and delivery with the prize being my own, Isaac Ray. The miracle of life and giving birth is absolutely amazing and this experience reminded me once again how precious the gift of children are. Our Creator is astounding.
